15 Animes Like Wise Man’s Grandchild with MC in a Magical World!

I have created a magical recommendations list of Animes Like Wise Man’s Grandchild. If you are looking for animes that transport their MC into a fantasy world, then try some of our similar suggestions below. These 15 animes Like Wise Man’s Grandchild will make any old man a world-saving Otaku.

These are mostly isekai animated series that will also teach you about the ways of magic, relationships, and to always believe in yourself… that eventually, you’ll get the popular girl!

1. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!)

The story follows a boy named Kazuma, he was on his back home after buying a game when he dies an utterly ridiculous and pathetic death. Everyone including his parents simply laughs at how their son has just died. It’s insane. Anyways, he dies and somehow ends up in a fleeting space where he is confronted by a girl named Aqua, who for some reason, claims herself to be a goddess. It might be true, but her behavior and intelligence say otherwise.

Now, after also laughing at his death, she presents Kazuma with two options. Either to continue on to heaven or live a life in a real, organic fantasy world. Of course, since that’d be an RPG gamer’s dream, Kazuma chooses the latter. Just like that, his journey begins. He has equally interesting allies such as Aqua (She gets tricked into tagging along), a girl named Megumin who loves nukes, and a blonde masochist named Darkness. It’s one hell of a group.

Alright, so we are talking about animes like Wise Man’s Grandchild. Well, to be fair, unlike the main character of Kenja no Mago, Shin, Kazuma is a renowned chad in the anime community, infamous for his casual perverseness and sense of equality. He isn’t anything like Shin. But the comedic elements, the fantastical world, and the fact that the protagonist died and was reborn in this new world are similar.

2. The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar

When a dear childhood friend named Mizuki Shinomiya seems increasingly interested in testing out a popular urban legend, the protagonist named Yuuto joins her in this predicament. It’s not that big of a deal either, all you need to do is stand in front of the mirror of the local shrine and take a selfie with your smartphone. Nothing out of the ordinary to say the least.

But when Yuuto and her friend are there, and Yuuto takes the selfie, he suddenly disappears from the world entirely with no trace left of his physical existence whatsoever. While he disappears from this world, he reappears in a medieval fantasy world, he is genuinely and warmly welcomed by the locals and many beautiful girls. Plus, his friend back on earth can still contact him using the phone.

Alright, now that the man is here, he decides to use his knowledge of history and all to help these nice people get prosperous and gain prominence. And while this anime might be the least relevant in this list of animes like Wise Man’s Grandchild, it’s still a solid Isekai anime that shares subtle similar tropes.

3. Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest

An interesting anime series indeed. This story features a 17-year-old, completely and utterly average anime Otaku named Hajime Nagumo, he is, of course, a high schooler and has not much going on in his everyday life. That is until a supernatural event summons all of his class to a fantasy world and then gives him the insurmountable task of saving the World.

They are all also given special magical skills to become capable, the skill is different for everybody, some get the flashiest ones, while some are stuck with less exciting ones. Mostly everyone gets something super cool, except for Hajime, he is stuck with a supposedly weird transmutation skill, and worse than that, he gets berated for it.

Anyways, what’s happened has happened. They all go on an expedition next, and this is where Hajime finally realizes that the real tragic part was yet to happen. He suddenly gets betrayed by a classmate and is thrown off into the depths of an abyss. Though he survives. From there on out, Hajime meets worthy comrades and gradually, gains strength.

Now, considering how this is an anime like Kenja no Mago, I’ll also add how the two share a contrast. While Shin, goes to an academy in the fantasy world after going through rigorous training, for Hajime, it is only after he and his classmates get transferred and he gets tragically betrayed that he begins his rise to the top!

4. In Another World With My Smartphone

This ecchi harem anime might be the most similar in this list of animes like Wise Man’s Grandchild. It begins with a young boy named Touya Mochizuki unironically dying from a bolt of lightning on a random day. His death is odd and stupid, but as it turns out, that was what it was supposed to be. When moving on to the next world, it is stated that his death was a mistake and so he is given a chance to live once again in a new fantasy world. Plus, he also gets a wish. As you can expect, he obliges, and for that wish, he simply asks the right to keep his smartphone. And so that explains the title, “In Another World With My Smartphone.”

It is indeed like Kenja no Mago, the protagonists die and end up in fantasy worlds, both are surrounded by cute girls, are kind of dense, overpowered, and even somewhat look the same. Plus, the worlds of both stories are run by monarchies and the magic systems are also quite similar. If you liked one, you’ll also like the other.

5. Problem Children Are Coming from Another World, Aren’t They? (Hepburn: Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai Kara Kuru Sō Desu yo?)

Getting tired of the same old day-to-day, lazing around, and wishing for exciting things, is not only understandable, but it’s also completely normal. Such is the story of three young MCs who were blessed with insane, extraordinary psychic powers capable of even destroying the world, but it’s sad because they are still stuck living the same life as others, and nothing ever happens. They are completely and utterly fed up.

But one day, they receive a strange letter that serves as their invitation to a fantasy world or to be more precise, it’s their invitation to come to a place called Little Garden. You bet they took the invitation and just like that, they were dropped into a mysterious yet fantastical new world where they are greeted by a cute and thicc girl named Kurousagi and are presented with an opportunity that’ll make their lives interesting beyond belief.

A chance to participate in special high-stakes games. Now, how will it go from here on out? As for how this is an anime like Kenja no Mago? The main character is overpowered beyond belief, the story takes place in a fantastical world, and there is a main, powerful adversary in both of them!

6. The Rising of the Shield Hero

Many anime fans love and fantasize about the prospect of getting isekaied to a fantasy world full of cute girls, magical powers, and things that may not always be as fun as they seem. Such is the story of a 20-year-old college student named Naofumi. One day, as he is trying to find an interesting light novel to read, he comes across a book about Four Years. The man opens it, but within a few instances, he gets transported to another world. Together with him are three more young men.

All of them are explained how they are the four cardinal heroes, and their job is to protect this world from catastrophic events called the Waves. Now, in order to help them become capable of fighting, four weapons are presented. While the three others get the Sword, the Spear, and the Bow, Naofumi looks like he is stuck with a lame Shield Weapon.

He is kind of indirectly berated until a seriously tragic ploy is orchestrated against him, he gets betrayed thoroughly and ruthlessly and decides to seclude himself to train and get better. Fortunately, it isn’t long before he gets comrades he can trust, and so it begins, the Rising Of the Shield Hero.

This is indeed yet another anime like Wise Man’s Grandchild, although it might be more like Arifureta considering the element of betrayal. Anyways, both Shin and Naofumi get stronger by secluding themselves from society. For Naofumi, it doesn’t last that way very long though because he is a Cardinal Hero.

7. Knight’s & Magic

A young modern-day Otaku named Tsukasa was going about his life when he unfortunately dies, but fortunately gets reincarnated in a fantasy world as a newborn of a noble family, and even gets one of those cool, difficult to pronounce, royal names, “Ernesti Echevarria.” Did I mention how he is basically a mutant prodigy when it comes to magic?

Soon enough he gets old enough and is enrolled into a magic academy where they teach you how to drive high-tier mechas called Silhouette Knights, magic is an integral part of the piloting process which is why one has to be good at it. Shortly after, he becomes friends with two twins, a boy, and a girl, and shares his personal dream of one day creating his very own Silhouette. They are both enthralled, especially considering how the prospect of creating one on your own is considered pretty much impossible on your own.

On this list of animes like Wise Man’s Grandchild, Knight’s & Magic deserves the top spot. Both main characters were Otakus before they died, both get reincarnated as young children in a fantasy world with monsters and magic, and both go to magic academies. Of course, not to mention, the knowledge from their previous lives becomes the irreplaceable edge that makes them completely overpowered in this fantasy world.

8. Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody

The protagonist named Ichirou is dead and tired of his job as a programmer, he works himself to the bone each and every day and completely lacks a work-life balance. It’s so bad that the moment he gets the chance to doze off, he ends up waking up in the world of a fantasy game. It doesn’t take long before he realizes that this fantasy world is a collective mesh of all those games he had been debugging.

Not only that, but he also looks a lot younger now, plus his name has changed to the code-named, “Saitou,” which he used to use while debugging those games. He is taking his time understanding the situation when a little army of lizard men attacks him but quite conveniently, he is overpowered enough that he can take care of them, with no problem. In his previous life, he had no girls, but in this sweet fantasy, he is soon going to get a harem of beautiful and diverse girls who display unquestionable loyalty.

Alright, now since this is another anime like Wise Man’s Grandchild, let’s talk about the fundamental similarity between the two. Both MCs were working adults before they eventually got summoned or reincarnated into a fantasy world and ultimately get to live out their new lives as overpowered magic lords.

9. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Although the title may sound a little silly at first, I mean, how many of us secretly wish to be slime, in the context of this fantasy tale, it makes sense and is actually something quite epic. The main character was a 37-year-old normal working adult just going about his life, one day, while his friend is flexing with his beautiful girlfriend, a sad event happens, in order to save them, he steps in the way of a stabber and dies. In his final moments, the man told his friend to dispose of his hard drive.

Though as his consciousness was fading, a systematic voice asks him a few questions which don’t make sense by themselves but gave out vague answers ending up with the guy waking up in a fantasy world as a slime. Soon enough, he realizes how, he has the ability to “absorb,” any skill. It doesn’t have to be limited to skills honestly, he can absorb almost anything. He comes across a legendary dragon, they both hit it off, and the dragon even ends up giving the slime a name. Just like that, the journey of our slime, “Rimuru,” begins.

Now, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime isn’t just like Kenja no Mago, but also quite similar to the anime we talked about just now. The MC was a working adult before he died, though the interesting thing, in this case, is how he’s now a slime! 10-Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records (Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor)

10. Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor

The story takes place in a magical world, where a certain empire named Alzaon has an exceedingly prestigious and top-tier magic school named, “Alzano Imperial Magic Academy. The most competent of all students come here to become prominent magicians in the future. Two girls with lots of potentials are determined to make the best of their time here at the academy.

Though things take an interesting turn when their favorite teacher ends up retiring and a man named Glenn Radars takes place in his stead. He is lazy and doesn’t care much about things, which makes the class not anxious, but also turns somewhat against them. To make things worse, the teacher and the two girls I mentioned soon get caught up in mysterious schemes.

What will happen next? Now, you must be wondering how these animes are similar when it isn’t even an Isekai? Well, for starters, both take place in a magic academy, and both have two primary girls involved who show up in the very first episode, and the protagonists both stand out for being different from the rest. I’d say, if you like Magic school anime, you’ll like both!

11. Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

It’s no secret that it’s always better to be cautious than to be sorry. But at what point is one too cautious? Well, this anime more or fewer answers this question. The story follows a man named Seiya, he was summoned by a dunce goddess to save the world, but as she soon finds out, the man is the greatest advocate of this phrase, he’ll prepare thoroughly and rigorously, he’ll prepare until there is not even a shred of doubt that he’ll accomplish the task, like the point where his defeat is practically inconceivable regardless of what happens next, the point when it cannot even be imagined. That is what makes Seiya so strong, it’s the core essence of his strength. He’s someone who’ll even see Murphey’s law incoming from a distance and prepare accordingly.

Truly a legendary man. And as it is on this list of animes like Wise Man’s Grandchild, I’d say that Cautious Hero also creates a special synergy between elements like action, magic, and comedy. Plus, it does what it does very well!

12. Shikkakumon no Saikyou Kenja: The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest

As quite a recent anime, the story takes place in a fantasy world where the extent of one’s magical capabilities, as well as their destiny, is pretty much determined when they are born, and in order to solidify that, each newborn is given a special mark. There are four kinds of marks and each signifies a certain kind of aptitude for magic.

A man named Gaius was blessed with the creation mark and he soon became the Strongest sage, but even though what he wanted was a mark more suitable for close combat because that’s what he liked, he literally cannot do that, because it’s impossible to change one’s mark. This is why in order to cope in a different way, he decides to reincarnate himself far into the future.

Just like that, the MC is born again thousands of years into the future, and with the mark that he so desperately wanted to attain, but quite surprisingly, it is now considered the weakest crest. The perception of magic as well as reputable techniques have changed quite a lot in the thousands of years.

But that’s nothing to our protagonist because he is ready to exceed each and every expectation. Now, of course, this one is also quite an anime like Wise Man’s Grandchild. Both feature an overpowered MC who goes to an academy and meets cute girls, they exceed expectations in every way when concerning their skills, and fight together with their friends!

13. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

The general view of Isekai genre in the anime community has been quite negative for a few years now, they are still quite popular, but most of them feel like copypastas of each other. However, every once in a while, we do get Isekai animes that surpass the community’s expectations and manage to reach that “Hall of Fame,” status. Mushoku Tensei is one of them, and if you are going to watch just one anime from this list of animes like Wise Man’s Grandchild. This should be the one.

The story follows a 34-year-old shut-in despicable Neet who has wasted pretty much all of his life, got bullied, scorned, and neglected, and now, he is just a degenerate watching questionable stuff and spending all his time in his room. That is of course until, during a certain moment of truth, his body automatically rushes in to save someone’s life, but he ends up dying in their stead. That was that, and soon enough, he wakes up as a newborn in a medieval magical world. Now, will he be able to change and leave his degeneracy, or further engage in it? You’ll have to watch and find out.

Mushoku Tensei has some crazy world-building and magic power systems, you’ll definitely be pleasantly surprised. And the MC was born as an infant and grew to power from there on out.

14. Quanzhi Fashi (Full-Time Magister)

Unlike most other anime on this list, this one is a Chinese anime, plus each episode is just 18 minutes long. There is a high school student named Mo Fan who is transferred to a different world, and unlike the world, he was in before, this one operates on the laws of magic. There are magic schools and those who have a great affinity for magic are taught to become great magicians.

Coincidentally, Mo Fan has harsh family circumstances even in this new life, he is the son of a frugal laborer and his stepsister is disabled. Still, he plans on enrolling in a magic school so that he can repay his father for all that he has done as soon as he can.  Unfortunately, even when he enrolls, the boy faces ostracization because of his family background and also becomes the laughingstock of his entire school.  Now, how will Mo Fan take this dilemma?

Both Quanzhi Fashi and Wise Man’s Grandchild Anime like Wise Man’s Grandchildfollow slightly dense protagonists who attend a magic school, they are both envied.

15. Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles

A 20-year-old college student living a sad life ends up dying because of a traffic accident, and of course, as you can expect, he wakes up in a fantasy world. It doesn’t take long before he realizes what is going on and how he has also somehow acquired magical abilities.

Now here in this new world, he begins a new life. Shortly after, the boy saves a young princess from suspicious kidnappers and in turn earns the King’s favor, he is also given the prestigious opportunity of enrolling in a Royal magic academy. Though he is excited, his commoner background might make him stand out among all the royalty that is there in the academy.

Well, at this point, you must’ve already instinctively realized the similarities this anime has after going through so many animes like Wise Man’s Grandchild. The MC of the two stories each die because of a car accident, both enroll at a magic academy and have to go through status problems, they both use knowledge from their previous lives in addition to their already overpowered skills and become the center of attention quickly after enrolling.

To say the least, if you liked Kenja no Mago, there’s no way you wouldn’t like this one. And that goes for all the anime in this list because it is a post about the “top 15 Anime like Wise Man’s Grandchild” after all.
