Being the guardians of peace in the Republic and the only ones who can take on the mighty Sith Lords, the Jedi had to continuously perfect their skills with the Force. In this article, we count down the 20 strongest Jedi of all time. The Jedi are the “Good Guys” of the Star Wars universe. Jedi gain knowledge that can be used to help everyone. They strive to adhere to a high level of ethical and moral considerations. More than anything else, they value understanding and wisdom about the Force and life, They act as peacekeepers throughout the galaxy and preach understanding and non-aggression. However, in a galaxy threatened by ruthless Sith Lords, who would apply any means in the selfish pursuit of their passions, Jedi secure peace by being strong!
In order to counter immense Dark Side abilities like Force Lightning or draining the life force of an entire planet, Jedi must learn to use the force equally well. The Jedi Order has counted many strong members over time, as Jedi technology developed, allowing the Jedi to comprehensively study the Force. Certain Jedi Masters achieved astounding Force feats like Force Push, manipulating black holes, reading the minds of everyone in the universe, and more. Actually, they managed to prove that the Light Side is a pathway to many incredible abilities and may just be stronger than the Dark Side. In this article, we will rank the top 20 strongest Jedi of all time. Mind you, we are looking for the strongest Jedi overall, regardless of Canon and Legends – the expended universe. All set? Let’s go!
20/20. Yarael Poof
A Quermian Jedi Council member during the events of The Phantom Menace, Yarael was always willing to take to the field. A talented sword duelist, Poof was well-versed in the basics of each form but was a master of Forms 2, 4, 6, Makashi, and Niman. On one assignment he was tasked with finding out if a terrorist group was threatening Coruscant. The terrorists intended to blow up Coruscant by using the Idol of Shaa, a Force energy weapon with the power to blow up planets. With the help of Jango Fett and Zam Wessel, Yarael easily defeated all the terrorists. However, he was stabbed deep in the chest by the terrorist’s leader, who was thought for dead.
Yarael temporarily survived his stab wound and used the final ounce of his power to absorb and contain the energies of the Idol of Shaa. Because of it, he died from his wounds. This means, he could have saved himself but chose to save Coruscant instead. The fact that Yarael could absorb such large amounts of Force power in his weakened state shows just how much raw power this Jedi had. Yarael was also very proficient in the art of Battle Meditation and illusions. This allowed him to conjure up phantoms of beasts and units of soldiers to strike fear into the hearts of enemies. A very strong and honorable Jedi indeed!
19/20. Eeth Koth
Eeth Koth sat on the Jedi Council for decades, and took part in several dangerous Jedi missions, including being a member of the assault team that came to planet Geonosis to rescue Kenobi, Skywalker, and Amidala. While on another mission, Koth’s battleship was attacked by Separatist forces led by General Grievous. Despite having been shot in the arm moments before, Koth confronted the cyborg General inside the bridge and would have made short work of the General until the intervention of Grievous’s IG-100 MagnaGuards. Throughout the fight, Koth displayed impressive skill and agility through the use of the Force rather than through swordplay. However, he was eventually overwhelmed and taken hostage.
He was viciously tortured but later rescued by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan. After Order 66 was issued, Anakin Skywalker now the Sith Lord Darth Vader, arrived at Koth’s home and confronted him. Using the Force, Koth was able to blast a hole in the thick stone wall of his house in order to enable the escape of his child and wife, while simultaneously throwing a droid at Vader. In the intense swordfight that ensued, Koth managed to stand toe-to-toe with Vader for a while, taking Vader’s Force-based attacks! Darth Vader actually resorted to trickery to distract Koth emotionally, impaling Koth through the back, killing him. Koth’s impressive last stand puts him on our list of strongest Jedi of all time.
18/20. Cin Drallig
Drallig started out Padawan to Master Yoda himself. He mastered all seven forms of lightsaber combat and became a head trainer and Battlemaster of the Jedi Order. Drallig had outstanding talents as a duelist and developed a unique style of lightsaber combat that used the Force to enhance his speed and rely on unconventional movements. Count Dooku even stated that Drallig was a serious threat to the likes of General Grievous. However, his remarkable knowledge of swordsmanship was not enough. During Order 66, as Darth Vader raided the Jedi Temple, he was confronted by Drallig in the Temple training hall. Drallig managed to hold his own against the raging Sith Lord for a while. During the duel, he displayed high levels of mastery over many Force powers, but he was finally killed.

17/20. Shaak Ti
A Togruta Jedi Master and member of the Jedi High Council, Shaak Ti was amongst the wisest in the Jedi Order, and one of the Order’s foremost lightsaber duelists. Shaak Ti’s rare “raw power” in the Force was demonstrated when her mere presence on planet Felucia changed the balance from being a Dark Side Nexus to being a Light Side Nexus. Using telekinesis she managed to hold the Kaminoan Ocean from entering a cave. Her speed and skills allowed her to block blaster bolts coming from almost every direction. She was also able to contend with General Grievous for a brief time, even while exhausted. Despite her powers, she died at the hands of Vader’s Sith apprentice Starkiller in a duel on Felucia. That was in a video game called The Force Unleashed. In another version, she is slain by Darth Vader during his attack on the Jedi Temple. Vader murdered her while she is in deep meditation over a shift in the force she has just felt.
Gnost-Dural was the keeper of the Jedi Order’s archives and the foremost expert on the Sith. Despite mainly being a historian, he was one of the most powerful Jedi Masters of The Old Republic era. He was a masterful practitioner of all seven forms of Lightsaber combat, prone to incorporating Force-based attacks into his lightsaber sequences. His lightsaber skills were such that he has killed countless Sith Lords since the start of the Great Galactic War. He has fought powerful Sith like Darth Karrid; who, by her own admission, could not defeat Dural alone. He even did well against Darth Malgus! He is shown to use telekinesis to lift and throw groups of people with what appears to be casual ease. Because of his Force Augmentation, he was able to strike four times in a single second. Gnost was an extremely dangerous Jedi indeed!
Member of the Jedi High Council and Jedi General of the Grand Army of the Republic, Ki-Adi-Mundi has led military campaigns against the Separatist Alliance forces across the galaxy. In terms of saber dueling, Ki Adi has defended himself from General Grievous while exhausted and threw people several meters in the air. In terms of Force powers, Mundi has lifted a Skiff out from being buried under the sand. Even while exhausted, he has created small craters with his Force Blasts. He is also extremely durable, being able to take impacts through larger metallic objects while extremely exhausted by Grievous, as well as shrugging off a bone sticking out of his body. Mundi died during the events of Order 66, betrayed by his clone troopers who executed their Jedi leaders. All in all, we think this Cerean Jedi deserves to be 15# on our list of the top 20 strongest Jedi of all time.
14/20. Kirak Infil’a
This guy even LOOKS strong! At some point in his career as a Jedi Master, Infil’a took the Barash Vow which forbade him from interacting with the Jedi Order as a form of reparation. Because he was not a member of the Jedi Order during Order 66, Infil’a survived the Great Jedi Purge. Later, he faced Darth Vader. Kirak is described to be a Jedi more powerful than any Darth Vader has faced before. He held against Vader which other Jedi could not do. They were equals in terms of strength in the Force. When Vader Force-chocked Infil’a, Infil’a countered Vader with comparable strength, chocking him back. Vader had to resort to trickery to kill Infil’a, which tells you something about this Jedi’s strength.
13/20. Qui-Gon Jinn
Qui-Gon was an exceptional Jedi with the sword and in the Force. He was one of the best swordsmen in the Jedi Order and had fought in battles all across the galaxy against odds so great that many others would not have stood a chance. Due to his apprenticeship with Dooku, he was able to master the Form IV style and developed his telekinetic prowess. He fenced with Anoon Bondara, who was regarded as the premier expert of the weapon in the Order. Bondara could not defeat him! Qui-Gon had perfect mastery of the Force, which he demonstrated by being the one who discovered how to become one with the Force after death, granting virtual immortality and being able to manifest as Force-ghost. Moreover, after his death, he was able to reach out to Yoda from the Force. He was the one to teach Yoda how to overcome death. However, despite his deep understanding of the Force, he was killed by Darth Maul, who has taken advantage of a flaw in Jinn’s fighting style.
12/20. Jaina Solo
One of the three children of Han Solo and Leia, Jaina is the only Jedi who can use Black Force Lightning. Black Force Lightning is the strongest Force Lightning ever and it can disintegrate someone. Among her greatest feats are slaying Tsavong Lah, a fanatical Warmaster of the Yuuzhan Vong, and a flawless warrior. She also faced her twin brother Jacen Solo, who became the Sith Lord Darth Caedus. In an intense lightsaber duel, she killed him. Although her victory over her powerful Sith brother was circumstantial, she was able to contend with him very well and she is still comparable with him. Moreover, Jaina was blessed with impressive Force abilities. For example, she had Force Valor which enabled her to enhance her resolve and physical traits, and Force Speed which allows her to react so fast it appears to be a lightning bolt. For constantly being on the front lines during the Yuuzhan Vong War, Jaina was titled “the Sword of the Jedi” by her uncle Luke Skywalker. She would later become a leading member of the Jedi High Council after the events of the Second Galactic Civil War.
11/20. Plo Koon
Since Revenge of the Sith, Plo Koon was one of the most skilled Jedi in the order. He outdueled Asajj Ventress while he had a broken arm, which is a huge handicap for Djem So-style warriors, who mainly rely on strength. Mind you, this is the same renowned Ventress who proved a challenge to the likes of Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu, and Master Kenobi. Koon was so fast that he killed almost 30 Droids in the time it took for a Storm Trooper to speak three words. Regarding Koon’s Force power, let’s just say that after outdueling Asajj Ventress, he proceeds to ragdoll her like she’s nothing, throwing her away. He was also able to collapse a very large cave using the Force. Just to clarify, a smaller cave took multiple Jedi Masters to collapse, including Qui-Gon Jinn. He could communicate with his niece from another star system. Koon has also practiced a Force technique called Electric Judgement which was basically Force Lightning but with Light Side energy. A strong Jedi indeed!
10/20. Satele Shan
The direct descendent of both the legendary Jedi Bastila Shan and Revan, Satele inherited her father’s ability of Battle Meditation. She was raised as a Padawan and was the youngest Jedi to ever be accepted into the Jedi Council. Eventually, she was promoted all the way to be the Grand Master of the Jedi Order. She was skilled in telekinesis to the point where she brought a mountain down on Darth Malgus At the time of The Battle of Rhen Var, she could dismantle the fortress entrance with the Force and could destroy a dozen Hex droids with a mere gesture, while these combat droids proved to be a match to most other Jedi’s.
Grand Master Satele was also known for her foresight, sensing danger before it was there. In at least one instance, she blocked lightsabers with her hands through Force energy absorption. Trained in saber combat by the temple’s Battlemaster Kao Cen Darach, who was unmatched in his skills with the saber, Shan was a duelist who used an acrobatic style and a double-bladed saber. So, on top of her Force abilities, Satele is no slouch with the saber either and should be considered one of the 10 top strongest Jedi of all time.
9/20. Lord Hoth
Lord Hoth was the leader of the Army of Light, the strongest army of Jedi ever. In his teens, Hoth was already a renowned Jedi hero. He became a respected Battle master of the Jedi Order by his mid-twenties. A battle-hardened warrior who desired to end the Sith threat against the Republic, Hoth prosecuted a campaign against Lord Skere Kaan’s Brotherhood of Darkness. Despite facing many hardships, Hoth has slaughtered entire armies of Sith Lords. When he got swarmed by a sea of Sith, he managed to cut through them being described as “unstoppable”. Finally, he faced Kaan in a final confrontation, though knowing that his desperate foe would utilize a deadly Force power known as the Thought Bomb. Kaan did set off the Thought Bomb, killing himself and Hoth. In his self-sacrifice, Lord Hoth toppled the all-powerful brotherhood of darkness.
8/20. Nomi Sunrider
Nomi Sunrider was strong in the Force before she ever started down the path of the Jedi, and was considered Jedi Master Thon’s greatest apprentice. One of the greatest Jedi Knights of her era, Sunrider was a central figure in the downfall of Exar Kun and his apprentice, the fallen Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma, during the Great Sith War. During the war, Sunrider was present when Qel-Droma slews his own brother. Sunrider then wisely used her powers to sever Qel-Droma’s connection from The Force and confined Exar Kun’s spirit to his temples for the next 4 millennia. With Qel-Droma out of the picture, the Sith War was soon concluded.
She was not only an expert in lightsaber combat but also a very proficient Force user. For example, she was able to tank Bolts of Hatred from King Ommin. Also, she effectively used Battle Meditation on a group of pirates, forcing them to fight amongst one another. She had powers that all Sith should fear, but most of all her unique ability to deprive Darksiders s of their connection with the Force! Nomi Sunrider would later become the Grandmaster of the Jedi order, a position that is typically granted to the greatest of Jedi Masters.
7/20. Galen Marek/Starkiller
This guy is a BEAST! Here are some of his feats:
A: Pulling down a Star Destroyer out of orbit into the surface of a planet with the Force. B: Legitimately defeated Darth Vader, both as a light and dark side Force user! C: In the video game he defeated Emperor Palpatine in single combat.
The offspring of two Jedi, Galen Marek, code name: Starkiller, was trained personally by Darth Vader. He defeated General Rahm Kota, an expert strategist, and cunning Jedi warrior. Defeated Shak Ti, a renowned and powerful Jedi master. He crushed TIEs in flight! How about that? Starkiller diverted lightning blasts!
Having said all that, some of Starkiller’s victories were situational. For example, in Vader’s case, it didn’t seem like Vader felt he was under any kind of real threat, and therefore didn’t give it everything he’s got. Starkiller, on the other hand, had to win or his friends would die. Also, in the case of pulling a Star Destroyer out of the sky, the book version is that the ship was already falling and Starkiller just helped it fall in the right direction. However, this doesn’t mean that Starkiller isn’t a powerhouse, just that he isn’t as overpowered as it might appear. In fact, Starkiller is very talented in his use of Force Lightning and incorporates it into other force and saber attacks. He is an extremely dangerous opponent!
6/20. Hero of Tython
The individual known as the Hero of Tython was a powerful Jedi Master with a strong connection to the Force. His rise was foretold by the Sith Lord Scourge, who, while fighting Emperor Vitate, received a series of Force visions of the possible paths that the future could take. The visions revealed to Scourge that he would not be able to defeat Vitate, and that only many years later a Jedi Knight would be the one to end the threat that Vitate posed to the galaxy. The Hero of Tython was born about 300 hundred years later. The hero made common use of Force techniques to augment his physical abilities, such as leaping great distances and moving with Force-enhanced speed.
Telekinesis was another power that came naturally to the Hero, as well as the ability to guide a thrown lightsaber to the intended target across a battlefield. Considered one of the greatest lightsaber duelists ever, the Hero of Tython was able to defeat the Sith Emperor Vitate. However, Vitate didn’t fully die and came back later on known as Valkorion, becoming far superior to his former self.
Also, for all fairness, Vitiate was weakened during the time of the fight from failing a ritual, so he was below his usual skill level. It’s pretty safe to say that the Hero is inferior to Vitiate usually. Yet, this is the same Vitate who used Sith magic to drain the life force out of eight thousand fellow Sith Lords and an entire planet’s population, so even if he had a bad day it still means the Hero is a major powerhouse.
5/20. Mace Windu
Mace Windu was Master of the Jedi Order, which makes him an equal to Yoda in rank and power. He was one of the best swordsmen the Jedi Order had ever produced in its 25,000-year history, and the only one known to have mastered Vaapad-a highly difficult form of lightsaber combat that only those powerful enough could use. He was even able to go toe to toe with Darth Sidious at the chancellor’s office. During the battle, he was moving so fast that he appeared to move in and out of existence.
He had powerful telekinesis which was capable of sweeping small armies of battle droids. Mace also mastered a rare Force ability called Shatterpoint that allowed him to see the weak places in an opponent The guy genuinely defeated Darth Sidious, arguably the most powerful Sith Lord ever, never having fought a Sith Before. Taking all that into consideration, Mace certainly deserves a spot in the top five strongest Jedi of all time.
4/20. Obi-Wan Kenobi
Probably the most influential Jedi of all time, Obi-Wan Kenobi is also one of the strongest Jedi of all time. Although having one of the lowest levels of Midi-chlorian in the Jedi Order, Obi-Wan achieved his maximum potential and became a part of the living Force which makes him have unlimited potential when fulfilling the will of the Force. He was considered the foremost master of Suresu, the defensive form that had no weaknesses.
However, because the form had no offensive application, Obi-Wan was also a master of Ataru, an offensively based form, as well as Djem So. In a fight he would outlast his opponents, figuring out the weakness of their style or simply tiring them out. Among his greatest feats, we can count defeating Darth Maul on Naboo, Defeating Durgea a regenerating separatist monstrosity, holding off Darth Vader while the other heroes escape, and killing General Grievous. In all, he easily ranks in the top 4 strongest Jedi of all time.
Even at a young age, Revan’s insatiable hunger for mastery over the Jedi arts drove him to be the Jedi Order’s strongest champion against the Mandalorian threat. He became a hero to the Republic in the Mandalorian Wars after he challenged and defeated the Mandalorian leader Mandalore the Ultimate in single combat. After the battle, even the Mandalorians said that if Revan had been born a Mandalorian, the Mandalorians would be unstoppable. It is obvious that in his prime, Revan was the strongest Jedi of his age!
He was an overwhelming force on the battlefield, able to switch from one form of lightsaber combat to another and strike down any opponent. When he encountered the Sith headmasters Uthar Wynn and Yuthura Ban on Korriban, he slew them both and then continued to slay the whole of the Sith Academy comprising of tens of Sith assistants and masters. However, Revan was turned to the Dark Side and became a Dark Lord of the Sith. As a Sith, he was also unmatched in his prime.
When he became a Jedi once more, Revan defeated his former apprentice, now called Dark Lord Malak, even despite Malak’s powers being continuously refilled by the Star Forge’s energies, ending his Sith Empire. Once again Revan was declared the hero of the Republic. Kreia once stated the following quote: “Revan was power. It was like staring into the heart of the Force.”Revan’s mere presence allowed non-Force sensitives near to feel the Force. We think this is pretty impressive, Revan deserves to be one of the top 3 on our list of the strongest Jedi of all time!

Oh, how looks can be deceiving! This tiny, green, old being is unquestionably one of the two strongest Jedi of all time. Yoda has bested Count Dooku in both the lightsaber technique and the use of the Force. He dominated Darth Sidious in a lightsaber duel. He even tanked his evil opponent’s Force Lightning which has turned many others to ash. Yoda casually disarmed Ventress from his lightsaber, with a flick of a wrist. Master Yoda single-handedly destroyed an entire battle-droid army during Star Wars: The Clone Wars, without breaking a sweat.
Through the Force, Yoda could telepathically communicate with Jedi from anywhere in the galaxy and appear in front of them. He could also see through the eyes of every Jedi in the galaxy simultaneously, Using Battle Meditation, he was able to aid the Wookiees and clones on Kashyyyk through the Force, essentially enhancing the stamina, and fighting prowess of his side. Even as a Force Ghost, Yoda could still affect the physical world, able to call down lightning to destroy the old Jedi Shrine. Yoda’s knowledge of the Force was so vast it is hard to imagine a Light Side warrior who can defeat him. However, there is one Jedi who might be up to the challenge!
1/20. Luke Skywalker
The strongest Jedi of all time! Like his father Anakin, Luke Skywalker was a favored instrument of the cosmic will of the Force. However, in his prime Luke became what Anakin could have been in his. And Anakin had the highest Force potential of any Jedi! Luke didn’t choose the easier path of the Dark Side like Anakin did but still managed to defeat a galaxy-spanning Empire. Along the way, he even redeemed the previous-strongest-Jedi-of-all-time when he saved his father from the clutches of the Dark Side. This was something no other Jedi was able to do, not even Yoda, who came second on our list. Luke defeated Darth Vader one-on-one lightsaber duel in Return of the Jedi. In The Last Jedi, he used Force Projection to project a hologram of himself halfway across the galaxy. Even Kylo Ren was convinced this was real.
In Star Wars: New Jedi Order, he used Telekinesis to take control of a black hole! He absorbed the energy of AT-AT blaster fire, only releasing that same energy when he wanted to. He rooted himself in the heart of the Force and became the very essence of the immovable object. Nothing could dislodge him. It was stated not even the supermassive Black Hole at the center of the galaxy would’ve been able to move him. These are all devastating use of the Force, only one Jedi could perform. Luke Skywalker! The Strongest Jedi of all time.
Who was the strongest Jedi? Verdict
Canon or Expanded Universe, the answer to this question remains the same: Luke Skywalker! In Canon, George Lucas himself confirmed that Luke became everything Anakin could have been. And Anakin was supposedly the Chosen One! Lucas also stated in the past that Luke was meant to have the same Force potential as his father, had Anakin Skywalker not been maimed on Mustafar. In the EU, Grandmaster Luke Skywalker is probably the closest thing to a god of the Force. He is able to read every mind in the universe at once or smash planets with just the Force. He was able to end Darth Sidious the most powerful Sith Lord the galaxy had ever known. Able to shut down his presence so people would be unable to see him, and a lot more. He can sever someone else’s connection with the Force and could level mountains with Force Push. He even defeated Abeloth, who is actually a god in the star wars universe.
Note that in the EU Luke became far more powerful with the Force than what we see in the films. He also became a MUCH more skilled lightsaber duelist. During his battle with the Yuuzhan Vong, Luke was so fast that it seemed as if he was fighting with thirty lightsabers at once instead of one. In the Dark Empire comic books, Luke duels Darth Sidious and WINS. He couldn’t do these things in the films, did he? If Rey had attacked EU Luke, she would have had her ass kicked so fast her world would be spinning.
In the EU Luke is more like Goku from Dragon Ball Z! So, as for who was the strongest Jedi, our definite answer is no other than Luke Skywalker! That’s it for today! Hope you enjoyed this article and may the Force be with you!
